Time to vent about...

It's time to vent about that icky stuff that happens to be in EVERYTHING at the supermarket these days: partially hydrogenated oils!!! I cannot believe how that stuff creeps into everything!! It just makes me not buy anything processed or pre-prepared! Everything that is "easy" at the store, like a cake mix, has partially hydrogenated oils! I went to the supermarket to find a cake mix today (I haven't bought one in long time, since I try to make everything from scratch), but I couldn't find one single brand without partially hydrogenated oils in the ingredients list. I am so disappointed and frustrated because it seems like it should be possible to make these products WITHOUT partially hydrogenated oils in them! Even though the nutrition label might list "0g trans fat" for these cake mixes, the list of ingredients include "partially hydrogenated oils" and that is not a good thing. Even BREAD CRUMBS have partially hydrogenated oils in them....BREAD CRUMBS!!!! GOODNESS!! Now, why on earth do bread crumbs require trans fat to be added to the ingredients? It makes no sense whatsoever!!

I really hope if enough people boycott these products that maybe the companies will stop adding partially hydrogenated oils to food products. I am going to contact customer service for these cake mix companies and state my complaint and see what they say. If enough people complain, maybe we'll see some changes in the future, but until then, the food industry will continue to distribute these products with unhealthy partially hydrogenated oils.

Okay, enough venting...sorry! Maybe you can help and submit your complaints too:

  1. I hear ya, Mar. Between partially hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup, we're essentially screwed to buy A LOT of things at the store.

I find these cake mixes to be too sweet and almost chemically tasting. The last time I make cake at home I searched for a natural foods brand. I don't know if it had P.H.O. in it, I forgot to look, but that might be an alternative.
