Blue Bottle Coffee Co. is not for the average coffee patron. You have to be a serious coffee lover in order to appreciate the full-bodied flavor and hard work that goes behind this gourmet organic coffee that is roasted in small batches (21 pound batches vs. 80-135 pounds in commercially roasted batches). Now, why do I say you have to be a serious coffee lover? Well, only a serious coffee lover would understand the beefy price tag that comes along with their coffee and espresso drinks. Let's just say if you order a mocha drink, you will be paying about $4.50 plus tax (which is more than a lunch special at some restaurants!). Regular drip coffee is about $2.50 and a latte runs about $3.50 (prices may vary). They use high quality organic milk in their latte drinks and a super rich chocolate in their mocha drink that will blow you away. It is that good! (Seriously, I even saw the barista lick the spoon after stirring the chocolate for a mocha drink, before retiring it to the dirty dish bin. I don't know if licking the spoon is a health code violation, but I imagine it is! But oh well, it's just that kind of cafe...and the barista obviously knows this is high quality chocolate and he didn't want a single drop of it to go to waste!)

When you walk into the cafe, you will see a long line up of these super cute Bonmac ceramic drippers on a wire shelf sitting patiently above a coffee cup, ready to brew the next incoming orders. If you order drip coffee, the barista loads a pitcher with hot water, places a filter and the perfect amount of freshly ground coffee in the Bonmac ceramic dripper and pours the hot water on top. Then, you get to watch your coffee percolate right in front of you! What an apt idea--getting rid of fancy electric coffee brewers and going back to the roots of steeping coffee cup by cup! You won't get this at Starbuck's, that's for sure! You'll get some coffee that was brewed in the morning and has been sitting in a coffee urn. If you are in a hurry on the way to work, this is NOT the cafe for you. This cafe has a slow tempo and a laid back, hipster atmosphere. No one is in a rush there, including the baristas--everyone is there to savor the smell of rich coffee and sip their coffee slowly.

Back to their ceramic drippers...They are so adorable, but they come with a hefty price tag of $16.00! I guess that's not too bad, though, if that's your primary method of brewing your coffee, and you are seeking to eliminate the use of a cheaper, plastic version or an electric machine (which aren't nearly as charming!). Aside from it's functional duties, I just love looking at it! It looks like a coffee cup, but it's really a dripper that sits nicely on top of your coffee cup to percolate your morning joe! Plus, only those "in-the-know" will recognize their signature blue bottle logo on it.

Oh, and I just found out that the Feel Good Bakery sells Blue Bottle Coffee by the cup ($2.00) and by the pound ($8.00 for half a pound of beans to take home!).
