Trader Joe's Roasted Seaweed Snack




If you are like me and get the munchies or crave something salty and crunchy (like chips?), but don't want to load up on too many extra calories and fat (not to mention carbs), then consider trying Trader Joe's Roasted Seaweed snack. Now, I know what you are thinking, seaweed? How is that good? Well, this seaweed is very nutty tasting and salty. It starts out light and crispy and then melts on your tongue. It is so good! Believe me, my girlfriends love this and have admitted to eating three packs in one day! But not to fret because half the package is only 30 calories! That means you can eat the entire package for 60 itty bitty calories and only 4 grams of fat. Plus, you get the added bonus of vitamin C, Vitamin A and iron! If you can get your kids to eat this, even better!! (Unfortunately, Josh won't touch this snack, but that means more for me!). You can find these wonderful diet-friendly, low carb snacks with the crackers (in our Trader Joe's, the crackers are lined up above the freezer section--strange place for them, but that's their store location logic, I suppose). You can't beat the price at $0.99 a bag! I stock up on these when I see them in the store because they sell out almost as soon as they hit the shelves. If you've never tried roasted seaweed, give it a try. It's worth the exploration and it's worth the miniscule calories you ingest while satisfying a craving for salty, crunchy goodness!

  2. Dang This is really really good and its like eating a bag of chips and you feel full after a few pieces, it also lowers uric acid for people with gout, seaweed and cherries are known for that ... Great blog post etc.. :)

  3. RSS2K8: Thanks for your comment! I am so glad you like this snack, too! I did not know about the benefit of lowering uric acid for people with gout--how interesting! Thanks for sharing that with me.
    I do love how crunchy and satisfying this seaweed is, though. It is really good with rice, as well. (I'm not sure I feel "full" after a few pieces like you, so you're lucky in that regard! But I sure love how I can crunch away and not feel guilty about it! It is a healthy snack that does curb your appetite after you finish nibbling for a bit, which is nice.)   4. Holy cow! As an OWD (old white dude) I was rather skeptical when I saw these appear on the shelves. Then one of the employees started telling me about it and I thought, "okay, at worst I'm out 99 cents". I opened the package in the car and after consuming half the package before getting the 3 miles back to the house I seriously considered turning around and buying about 10 more of these. I'm going to sneakily introduce them to my veggie-hating 3 year-old (he's always interested in eating what Daddy is eating) maybe I can hook him on this, too!

    Thanks for your comment! I think the word is getting out about how yummy these snacks are! If you can get your kid hooked on them, even better! I know lots of kids who dig this snack and it's something you can feel good about giving them. I'm glad you like them--I used to hoard them like crazy, but now that Trader Joe's has the inventory under control, they usually have them in stock nowadays (thank goodness!). I love your "OWD" reference (made me laugh!).

  8. I picked them up today for the first time and I can't wait to go stock up tomorrow, great blog entry! I found it bc i'm trying to research them online to see if they are any good health wise, my tastebuds didn't know how to react with the first bite and I was turned off a little but with the second one my tastebuds adjusted and fell in love, im a feign for kettle chips and this is a great alternate :)

  11. I love these seaweed snacks, as does my husband. But I need to know the amount of potassium as he has kidney problems. It says zero in the summary above--can that be true? Appreciate a response.

    Thanks for your comment. Based on the research I did, there doesn't seem to be any potassium in the seaweed snacks, but I'm not a nutritionist so I can't be 100% positive. Everywhere that I've looked says 0mg of Potassium, though. Ask your doctor if you aren't sure, though.
