Zico Coconut Water

The verdict is in: Zico Coconut Water is really the next best thing to cutting open a young coconut and drinking the delicious coconut water inside! I just found a 1 liter tetra pak at Berkeley Bowl West for $5.69. Now that is a bit pricey, but it's better than the $6.89 Whole Foods Market price, and the health benefits and great taste make it worthwhile. It is actually marketed as an alternative sports drink because it is packed with electrolytes and has more potassium than a banana! Imagine that! The best part is that there is no added sugar or preservatives, so you have to drink this within three days of opening it. I'm pretty pleased with this product and I'm amazed at how close it tastes to an actual fresh young coconut! Now, all this is missing is the yummy young coconut to eat! So, if you don't have the courage to get your cleaver out and cut open a fresh young coconut, this is the best alternative! It's light and refreshing and not too sweet and you can feel good about drinking it, because it's natural and YUMMY!!!!! It actually comes in different flavors like mango, passion fruit & orange, but I like the natural or plain one the best.

I decided to take my Zico coconut water to my friend's house, where this whole coconut water addiction first began, so she could have a taste test and...she agreed with me that it is pretty darn close to a newly hacked open fresh young coconut! She's been drinking fresh young coconut for years, so she of all people would know! Okay, so Zico Coconut Water is so good that my friend actually slurped it off her (pristinely) clean counters when she accidentally tipped over her glass! She was not surrendering a drop of it to sponge or paper towel! We were busting up laughing so hard, I felt my abs hurting and I simply couldn't breathe! It was just such a hilarious sight to see! In between her laughs and slurps, she managed to get out, "I'm not wasting this goodness!" I told her that there was probably a dollar something worth of coconut water sitting on her counter and dripping off onto her floors. She said she would have lapped it off the kitchen floor, but she didn't have a chance to clean the floors that day! Oh, the things we'll do for precious coconut water!
