A conceptual art piece that's forever for sale? "A Tool to Deceive and Slaughter" is like a Pandora's Box or cube of art! A cube is a cube is a cube. Or, is it? What is art? Who owns art? This is a bizarre and utterly fascinating, philosophical article about how an artist designed a work of conceptual art that is perpetually or forever on sale. If you are an artist or if you like conceptual art, you'll appreciate this article on how an artist devised a way to earn money in an ingenious art display that is always on sale on eBay! How is it perpetually on sale on ebay? You'll have to listen to the article to find out! I just keep getting tangled up in this article--it's just crazy-intriguing-fabulous! I didn't "get it" at first because I just heard a summary of the story, which didn't do it justice (instead of hearing the internet audio version) it just seemed so strange, but now that I've heard the article first hand, I do and it's just mega brilliant.
It's called "A Tool to Deceive and Slaughter." It is a black eight-inch cube, made from acrylic, with a computer inside. You can buy it at auction on eBay, though doing so comes with a catch. Artist Caleb Larsen explains. This article/audio interview is courtesy of www.onthemedia.org.

By the way, the current starting bid on eBay is $6,858.00 as of March 10, 2010.
